So, so far I've captured moving light through photography and I have tired to represent the capturing of moving light in photography through material and shapes but now I want to really try something different, I want to physically catch the light. I have had this idea in mind for quite a while but wasn't sure if it was possible, putting lights into a cast and seeing if they still work.
But today I got the courage to go down to the casting room and try out my idea with the help of my studio buddy Shauna who made some terrific casts of the 'Virgin Mary' in wax.
I got ta container and put in the fairy lights in leaving out the plug and a bit of the cord. Then I poured in the wax and a bit of blue pigment. Two hours later and I was convinced it hadn't worked so when I plugged them in I got a happy surprise. The result is illustrated in the following images.
