The start of the Blog!

Hi,
My name is Lorraine Breen or 'Lori Bee'. I'm 21 and I've just started my first year in Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD). The tutors here have encouraged us to set up a blog to document our journey through our projects so we can keep track of our thought processes and hopefully get a few hints and tips from other art junkie bloggers! I'm not very good at this but I think I should explain who I am and how I came to start my artistic studies in LSAD.

Well, I was born in London and then moved when I was 5,with my family, to Ireland to a small little village called Hospital ....I know it makes me sound like an inpatient but seriously it is a town!! You can look it up on Google maps...least I'm not from Muff, another oddly named town in Ireland... but anyways! I then reluctantly went through the primary and secondary school process here in Ireland  and had mainly exceeded in all art related classes and projects.

At the tender age of 17 I was meant to pick a college course that would lead me to my future career for the next 50 years. I desperately wanted to attend an art college but at the time I wasn't at all confident in my self and the idea of sitting in front of a panel of artists for an interview was daunting, so I thought id do something else. Typically it didn't occur to my 17 year old self to pick a half way decent course  ,so I just picked whatever course had the most achievable points and the highest salary at the end of the day......Mental Health Nursing.

So cutting a long story short I got the points to get into this course and I thought I would be the next Florence Nightingale. How wrong was I eh! Second year of the course I left with my tail between my legs. But it hadn't been a waste of time, my confidence had built over those two years and I was thinking more and more about art. I had been lucky enough to have had worked beside some amazing art therapists who encouraged me to think about going back to my art. I watched how even the most comatose patient responded to the art therapy process and came out with some truly beautiful pieces of work. So I decided then and there 'F**k it I'm going to be an art therapist!'.

So last year I joined an art portfolio course in preparation for the LSAD interviews,  and now I'm here!

I'll be using this blog to document my projects and I would love some feedback! So come follow!!
